The licensing exemptions for PHS radiocommunications apparatus operating in the 1895-1906.1 MHz band are withdrawn in phases from 10 May 2013. By then, the import for personal use or sale of such apparatus to the public in Hong Kong will no longer be allowed. There is a three-year grace period, which ends on 9 May 2016, for those currently in use locally.
The use of radiocommunications equipment which does not meet the technical specifications prescribed by CA may cause radio interference and affect other legitimate radiocommunications equipment users. As such, when buying radiocommunications equipment, members of the public should take note of the points mentioned in this article.
