Note 1: A new domestic free television programme service licence was granted on 31 May 2016. Its service was formally launched on 14 May 2017.
Note 2: In January 2017, a domestic pay television programme service ("pay TV") licensee applied for the approval of the Chief Executive in Council for surrender of its pay TV licence. On 25 April 2017, the Chief Executive in Council approved the termination of the said pay TV licence with effect from 1 June 2017.
Note 3: Penetration of licensed domestic free television services (analogue broadcasting) is calculated by dividing the total number of TV households by the total number of households.
Note 4: Penetration of licensed domestic pay television services is calculated by dividing the total number of subscribers of licensed domestic pay television services by the total number of households. Some subscribers were counted more than once if they subscribed to more than one pay TV service.

Note 6: In 2015 and 2016, the three sound broadcasting licensees providing digital audio broadcasting ("DAB") services surrendered their DAB licences respectively. On 28 March 2017, the Chief Executive in Council decided that DAB services should be discontinued in Hong Kong, and DAB services provided by the public broadcaster, Radio Television Hong Kong be terminated within six months.
