OFCA's Participation in the International Regulators' Forum 2023
The International Institute of Communications (IIC) held the International Regulators' Forum (IRF) and the IIC's 54th Annual Conference during 16-19 October 2023 in Cologne, Germany. The events were hosted by Germany's Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunication, Post and Railway. Over a hundred representatives of communications regulators, including OFCA, and industry players from over 35 economies participated in the events.
Mr Chaucer Leung, Director-General of Communications, was invited to speak in the session of IRF titled Mobile communications: 5G rollout, progress and lessons learned so far; Satellite and space – regulatory considerations. He shared Hong Kong's experience with other regulators on the regulatory regimes and facilitative measures adopted and in the pipeline to support the continuous development of advance mobile and satellite services. Other discussion topics at the IRF included fixed broadband network rollout, regulation of digital platforms and online media, spam and cybersecurity as well as future regulatory structures and models. OFCA's representatives also participated in the Annual Conference which covered a variety of discussion topics including closing the digital divide, content creation and delivery, regional spectrum proposals, data and artificial intelligence governance, etc.
