The Telecommunications Authority (the "TA") is pleased to announce that each of the Provisional Successful Bidders has confirmed to the TA that the declaration made in its Connected Bidder Statutory Declaration comprised in its Application remains true and accurate in all respects. Accordingly, the Second Phase of the Auction will not be required as there is no Provisional Successful Bidder who is a Connected Bidder in relation to any other Provisional Successful Bidder. The TA is therefore delighted to announce that the Third Phase of the Auction will take place on Wednesday, 26 September 2001.

The Telecommunications Authority is pleased to announce the provisional result of the First Phase of the Auction of Hong Kong Third Generation Mobile Service Licences today (19 September 2001).

The Provisional Successful Bidders are:

  1. Hong Kong CSL Limited: a company jointly owned by Telstra Corporation Limited (60%) and Pacific Century CyberWorks Limited (40%);
  2. Hutchison 3G HK Limited: a company jointly owned by Hutchison Whampoa Limited (75%) and NTT DoCoMo Inc (25%);
  3. SmarTone 3G Limited: a company wholly owned by SmarTone Telecommunications Holdings Limited; and
  4. SUNDAY 3G (Hong Kong)Limited: a company wholly owned by SUNDAY Communications Limited.

The Applicable Royalty Percentage is 5%. The relevant minimum fee of the Spectrum Utilization Fees shall be:
