5G services have been developing rapidly since the launch in April 2020. At present, 5G coverage in Hong Kong has exceeded 90% of the population. To further promote wider application of 5G, the Office of the Communications Authority (“OFCA”) has organised a 5G Campus Application Competition (the “Competition”) with the theme of “5G Campus for Smart Life” for all secondary schools in Hong Kong, and commissioned the Hong Kong Productivity Council (“HKPC”) as the co-organiser of the Competition. All local secondary school students are invited to participate.
Key objectives of the Competition：
- To facilitate Hong Kong secondary school students to have a better understanding of the enormous potentials of 5G technology and its extensive innovative applications, and to enrich campus life, enhance learning environment, optimise the use of teaching resources as well as improve the community environment or facilities in the neighborhood through the application of 5G technology.
- To encourage students’ active participation in the development of advanced technologies and innovative industries.
- To enhance students' learning in science and technology, especially the integrated application of STEM (i.e. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) related knowledge and skills, so as to foster students’ creativity, collaboration skills, problem-solving techniques, as well as development of their innovative thinking.
